How to Give Quesnel Community Foundation

Interest from all donations to the QCF is disbursed in one of the following ways:

  1. Agency
Organizations can create a special endowment fund in their name. While the QCF holds the original investment in perpetuity, interest is returned to the sponsoring organization annually.

  2. Designated
You name the field of interest or charitable organization to benefit from your fund, which will support your favourite charity or field of interest in perpetuity.

  3. Discretionary - These unrestricted funds allow the Grants Committee to decide where earnings can be used most effectively each year, yet allow the donors to name the fund and be recognized. This fund may be suitable for a family, a memorial, or a company.

  4. Donor Advised
These funds allow donors to be actively involved with the QCF in selecting recipient charitable organizations. This type of fund is considered the most effective alternative to the creation of a private foundation.

  5. Field of Interest
Your gift will focus on a particular field, but is not limited to one organization. You define the charitable field (such as the arts or health), but entrust the Foundation to select specific projects for support.

  6. Flow-through
Non-permanent funds passed through to qualified charitable organizations according to the donor's objectives. This choice accommodates donors who desire the protection of anonymity for their philanthropic giving, an impartial third party to distribute their community gifts, or who are not registered charities, but wish to provide tax receipts for donations.

  7. In Memoriam
Donors can choose to make a gift to the Foundation in memory of a friend or relative, or to express sympathy. When you make a donation in memory of a loved one, you will receive a tax-deductible receipt and a letter of thanks, and a sympathy card will be sent to the family advising them of your kind gesture. In Memoriam donations of $10,000 or more can be designated toward a field of interest.

  8. Scholarship
Your money will be used to set up scholarships in your name or in honour of someone else, to help deserving individuals to receive education or training they might not otherwise obtain.

  9. Undesignated
The income from your fund supports community projects designated by the QCF during and after your lifetime. Your fund will support a range of charitable projects and is best able to address the needs of tomorrow - needs that may be difficult to predict today.

NAMED FUNDS

A minimum commitment of $5,000 enables donors to establish a named fund. This amount can be accumulative or pledged over a multi-year period.

Make a lasting difference in the North Cariboo with a financial gift to the Quesnel Community Foundation. We welcome any contribution big or small. It all adds up, and the entire community benefits.

The Quesnel Community Foundation is a non-governmental organization founded in 2001.

The purpose of the Foundation is to provide Quesnel area residents with an endowment program that will permanently enrich quality of life by providing financial support in the form of grants to worthy projects throughout the region.

The Quesnel Community Foundation takes a long-range view towards fundraising. Contributions to the fund are professionally managed and invested. Only the income earned by the funds are distributed to qualified local recipients.

The aim is to give all community members an opportunity to give back to the region by helping to establish a permanent endowment fund. As an additional benefit, the more money you donate, themore taxes you save. As the Foundation is a federally registered charity, the tax credit that comes with your donation may be the best tax break available to you. A qualified financial advisor can quickly show you how to save money, by literally giving it away to the Quesnel Community Foundation!

How you can be part of the legacy:

Donating to the Quesnel Community Foundation is giving back to your community. We support a wide range of projects, from education, sports and recreation, to arts & culture, health, and the environment. We strive to fill current needs and to help ensure the future of the organizations involved. In doing so, we hope to fulfill our mission of enhancing the quality of our community.

Community foundations are one of the fastest growing and most dynamic networks dedicated to building and strengthening communities in Canada. Put simply, a community foundation is a living trust that allows donors to create a permanent endowment fund. Donations are held in perpetuity, and only the investment income is distributed on an annual basis. In 2001 alone, Canada's 121 community foundations held combined assets of over $1.617 billion and made over $78.5 million in grants to support local community priorities and projects across Canada. Aside from financial support, a foundation offers leadership to a community by bringing people together from all sectors to identify and address local issues.

You can be part of our success story by making a one-time gift, pledging a multi-year donation, or by remembering the Foundation in your will or life insurance policy. In addition to helping a good cause, there are also considerable tax benefits. The more you donate, the more you save in taxes. In fact, the credit that follows your donation may be the best tax break available to you. Bottom line: We welcome any contribution, big or small. It all adds up, and our entire region benefits.
